Coaching
PDF Print

Just imagine being able to work with someone one-to-one to talk through issues in a confidential, non-threatening way. Where you have time to think things through, plan your next steps and then review your learning on an ongoing basis.

Coaching helps people gain clarity on what their development needs are, it helps them focus on generating solutions, committing to doing things differently, putting their ideas into action and then reviewing the outcome.

Coaching is a highly cost-effective solution for dealing with a range of scenarios such as:

helping high potentials refine their performance
helping new managers adapt to the challenges of managing others for the first time
helping managers with new teams rasie the performance of the team
helping managers deal with performance issues
helping managers work through change projects
helping people work on personal issues such as being more productive or with career decisions
helping peoplel transition successfully into a new role

Coaching delivers many tangible benefits. For the organisation it is probably the most cost-effective way to develop someone. It can be delivered when needed, it addresses specific learning needs and it is delivered confidentially so no-one need know that someone is receiving coaching. For the individual it is much more likely to raise their level of confidence and capability than any training course as it is the coachee who generates the solutions to their problems rather than a ‘trainer’.

Coaching is, therefore, highly effective where:

the outcome that is needed is a tangible change in behaviour - simply learning something new will not necessarily deliver, it has to be applied
the development need is urgent - waiting for a course is not an option
the development need is personal or individual - generic training will not address the specific issue
time is valuable - the support or development is needed now

Our coaches are qualified and experienced line managers in their own right. Before taking on any coaching assignment we will contract with the coachee to establish the objectives for the coaching. We then work with the coachee over several sessions - we typically find that a minimum of four to six coaching sessions are required to help someone make progress and each session lasts approximately one and a half hours.
