How We Do It

The Business Case

How your people are managed will make a tangible difference to your organisation. The best managers view ‘managing people’ as part of their job, not an optional extra. They take the time to get to know their people, support them, provide them with encouragement, involve them in making decisions and help them grow in their jobs. These are not just nice things to do – people managed in this way are able to take on more responsibility, they perform better, they get more done without having to be told what to do all the time and they are loyal to the business.

No doubt you can probably think of managers who do the opposite so we don’t need to spell it out here, but suffice to say that poor management results in lower levels of performance and productivity and higher levels of cost. Poor managers will be spending a higher proportion of their time checking and correcting work, replacing people who have left and wishing that they had people who ‘had a better attitude’ or ‘were more accountable’! In other words, poor managers will actually be spending all their time on either the negative people stuff or on getting involved in too much day-to-day activity themselves.

Of course managers are increasingly busy and more and more is expected from them. Time out of the office is at a premium and budgets are tight, which means managers are finding it increasingly difficult to find the time to develop themselves or their people. It’s tempting to place more focus on ‘getting the job done’ at the moment, but it is the reality of modern working life. Consequently, organisations are looking for development solutions that really enable managers to transfer their learning into practice and which have a higher level of return on investment.

What makes us different form the norm?

We’re not arrogant enough to suggest that we’re the only company who do what we do, but we do believe that the way we do things sets us apart from the norm.

All our work is tailored to each client - we start by first understanding what the challenges facing your organisation are before suggesting the best solutions to meet your needs. There’s lots we can do, but our strength is in helping you prioritise what needs to be done and getting started with the things that will make the most difference.

Training, in isolation, is largely ineffective. We forget the majority of what we learn pretty quickly, especially if the training is not well structured, relevant or provided without any additional support to help people translate their learning into reality. Most managers value feedback and development that is time effective, practical and relevant to their needs. We use a blended and individualised approach to learning by combining modular workshops, self-awareness tools and one-to-one support. This maximises learning transfer and return on investment.

We are pragmatic and aim to keep it simple. Our experience of working with different organisations across different sectors provides us with a strong knowledge base of what works and what doesn’t. Our combined experience of HR, Learning and Development and line management means we understand the practicalities of how to make things happen.

As a small consultancy everyone in the team needs to contribute and we each represent out brand. This means you get a high level of quality, sevice and attention and you will get to know most of the team. We aim to position ourselves as an extension to your own team where we work in partnership with you. We believe in starting small and growing with you as your confidence in us grows.

We are cost-effective – we operate in a competitive environment and are ambitious to grow our business. We do this by being responsive, developing close relationships with our clients and focussing on adding value.

We are passionate about helping managers be the best they can. We believe that anyone who manages others can display leadership – they just need a bit of inspiration and knowledge, some useful tools, support and confidence.
