Personal Development Planning

Unless people make a psychological commitment to doing things differently as a result of their learning it is too easy to fall back into old habits. Personal Development Planning is simply about helping people create a structured plan to allow them to:

  • identify and focus on their priority development needs
  • think through what they need to do to address those needs
  • commit to key actions that they will take
  • set deadlines for achievement of those actions

Our dream is for every individual within a business to have their own "living" Personal Development Plan (PDP) which evolves over time. Every time someone goes on a course, has an appraisal, receives some informal feedback, learns about something new etc. they review and update their PDP.

For the individual this maintains their focus on continous development and allows them to review just how much they have learned over a period of time. For organisations, PDPs are essential for helping people convert their learning into action ensuring that peoples' performance is constantly improving.

By implementing a condsistent PDP process you will be able to:

  • focus every individual on their priority development needs
  • encourage a culture of continuous learning within the business
  • identify core areas of development across the business
  • raise the level of performance of everyone in the business
  • provide your managers with a tool to discuss development of their people

To be honest, creating a PDP format is quite straightforward. If you e-mail us at info@rworld.co.uk we will send you the temaplate we use on all our programmes.

However, we can also help you integrate Personal Development Planning into your apraisal process and help you with the "what comes next" after development needs have been identified i.e. we can help you put development options in place across your business, whether it be the creation of an online learning resource database or implementation of focussed training workshops.
