UFI (LearnDirect)

UFI asked us to put together a workshop to help develop a departmental management team. We helped them by designing and facilitating a two part workshop. The team consisted of 8 people with a fairly short average length of service. Each individual was rated as a high performer by the boss and the team had already been exposed to "typical" teambuilding workshops. The client was looking for something to help the team define a culture of high performance teamworking. Time out of the office was a major challenge. We designed two half day workshops. During part 1 we gave some brief input around the characteristics displayed by high performing teams. We then worked with the team to define "what good looks like" for high performance teamworking in their business. This resulted in a series of desired future state statements.

Between part 1 and part 2 we constructed an online survey designed to assess each team member's perception of where the team was against the desired future state statements; where the team was against 50 questions built around the high performance teamworking input; and what the key issues were in the team. We also asked each team member to complete an online DISC profile as preparation for part 2. On part 2 we analysed the questionnaire data and the team defined several key issues that it felt were important to work on. We then helped them identify several actions that they committed to working on.

This was logged by the team in a team development plan. We also outlined the Thomas International DISC profile characteristics to the team and plotted where each team member fell against the four DISC types. We worked with the team to identify any implications associated with the team's makeup and actions were added to the team development plan. As a follow-up to the DISC profiling we then provided in-depth feedback to each team member following the second workshop.

Hospice of St Francis

We were asked by The Hospice of St Francis in Berkhamsted, Hertfordshire to facilitate a one day workshop for the senior management team.

The objectives of the workshop were to help the team review the results from a recent staff survey and then to review how the team could work more effectively together. We started with a quick team energiser designed to get the team working and thinking differently. We then posed the challenge “What does good look like for the hospice as an employer of choice?”. This was to help the team define how they wanted the hospice to be operating in the future before reviewing the survey results. We then helped the team review the survey results and pick out key messages.

Finally we helped the group plan specific actions based on the survey results and also an analysis of how the results compared to the desired future state the team had defined. The next part of the workshop was to help the team review how it worked together. We asked each team member to complete our team Effectiveness Questionnaire prior to the workshop. The two teams then worked through the results identifying key issues and proposing specific actions.  Finally we ran an expectations exchange where the CEO stated what she expected from her team and vice versa.
